Homeschool Summer Plans

You guys, I finally decided on our math program for next school year.  Ah!  What a relief!  This has been weighing heavy on me for months.  I was going back and forth between three programs and decided on Math U See.  We've been using BJU for 3 years, but I felt like the kids needed a mastery approach.  That's just what Math U See is, so I really hope this will be a wonderful fit for the kids.  We'll get it in the mail this week.

We're going to dive right in next week with it.  Our summer homeschool plans will be fairly simple, yet very effective to not have the affects of the "summer slide."  We're going to do math and reading every day.  Plus we'll add in documentaries, nature studies, movies, and the typical summer fun things to do.

We're keeping our summer on the longer side this year and I'm excited for it.  I think with doing math and reading it'll make starting back with our school schedule in the fall easier.  I haven't decided if we'll start in August or if we'll wait until September, but I'm leaning towards the latter.  We have one fall trip in November planned so we'll take 2 weeks off for that, but otherwise we don't have extended trips planned.  So, we won't be taking as many breaks as we typically do when we start our year in July.

So while I know what we are doing for history, I need to select our read alouds and the kids' independent reading selections.  I like to choose books that tie in with our history because then we knock out two subjects.  I want to get the books on through the kindle app, however, I don't think my kids would love that.  Well, I know Xander would hate that.  So, how can I get him to love reading on his tablet?!  I need help!
