Monday night I made chicken shawarma from The Mediterranean Dish. It was so good. I recently discovered this website because I love Mediterranean and Middle Eastern dishes. I started making the yummy dishes while we lived in Germany, but it's been years, like a lot of years, since I've made chicken shawarma. Man have I miss it and enjoyed every bite Monday night.
The recipe was really easy and I already had all of the spices. I don't love cooking with turmeric, because it stains my wood spoon, but the flavor it gives is necessary. I now just keep one wooden spoon for turmeric and curry foods. Just remember to let the chicken marinate for a few hours. I'm so bad at remembering to pull meat out before I need it. You too?
I made a cucumber and tomato salad and tzatziki sauce to top it with because I'm not a fan of arugula yet. For the ziki sauce, I used dried herbs and just did the conversion. I've always used fresh but I didn't feel like buying them this time. The sauce was still fantastic.
It was such a quick meal to put together, it's perfect for a busy weeknight. If you try it, let me know what you think.
