Weekend Rewind

Hello friends.  We had the best weekend.  It was the perfect blend of starting something new, running the court, assembling happiness, and planning and reading.  Let's get to it.

Sterling started our weekend with a two hour horse lesson at a new stable near us.  She smiled the whole time she was riding and loved every minute of it.  She was five when she last rode and she's been asking every year since.  We love living in horse country.  It makes some dreams come easier.

Sterling has been busy sewing.  She's made so many things.  Her 1800's bonnet is her favorite.  But, last night she made an apron and it may be the new favorite.  I love her passion to learn new things.  I'm going to set up my sewing machine for her.  It'll make her projects that much easier.

Xander had his last basketball game for the season.  He loves playing and is already signed up for spring.

We also got the trampoline put up.  Now I better not ever hear "I'm bored!"  Ha, I know, I know.  But a mom can dream, right?!

I've been continuing my homeschool planning for next year.  I'm 99% sure we're moving to a Charlotte Mason philosophy next year.  Actually, I'm going to start weaving some aspects in next week to help smooth out kinks I'm concerned about.  The one subject that I'm unsure what I want to use is math.  We switched to BJU Math when Xander was in 3rd grade because I knew I wanted something that went all through high school.  And while we like BJU math, I'm not sure I want to teach math anymore.  Not just BJU, but any math.  So, I'm looking for something that has videos that aren't dry and boring.  BJU has videos, but we used them last school year and the kids hated them.  So I'm scouring the internet and seeing what my options are that will offer classes through high school.  I hate switching math curriculums.  They are all so different and on different levels, even within the same grade level.  I'm leaning towards Shormann Math, Pre-Algebra.

I received a few books in the mail and have started reading them.  I'm trying to learn as much as I can on how to make this a success.  I'm excited because I believe this philosophy is what I've always believed.  I've used portions here and there, but fully implementing it will be a game changer.  Sure, we'll still have hard days.  I'm not trying to change that, that's inevitable.  I want my kids to have a love to learn new things.  To take the initiative to understand things deeper.  For the past year I haven't been telling the kids, "lets go to school."  I've been saying, "let's go learn something new."  I want them out of the mindset that to learn something, they have to be in school.  I want them leaning whenever and wherever.

Have a great day!
