Christmas Traditions

Hi friends!  This month is flying by and although we're not doing all of our typical holiday traditions, we will hopefully sprinkle in a few this year.

We've been setting up our Christmas tree two weeks before Thanksgiving since Xander was a baby.  I love having the tree all set up and enjoying it.  This is the first year it's not up yet, and that's only because we are moving right before Christmas.

Our elves always make a stop on Dec 1st.

Advent calendars

I've had this little snowman advent for years and the kids love changing the numbers out.  They fight over it.  Wake up early, just so they can change it.  It's ridiculous, but it's loved and so he stays!

Donate toys.  I've been donating toys since I was 18.  I've always found an angel tree back in the day, but over the years they have disappeared.  So, we donate to toys for totes, Salvation Army, and churches.  So many fun memories picking out gifts for someone else.  It's always something they talk about every year.

Make gingerbread houses.  I hate this project!

On Christmas Eve we drive around in our jammies, drinking hot cocoa and look at lights.  There has been one year that we missed, we were on our flight home on Christmas Eve from our Disney Cruise.  So, we saw lights from the sky.

When they were really young, I gave them tickets and they thought it was the coolest thing.  How I miss the younger years where everything was so exciting and new.

Christmas Eve we open sibling gifts

Gumbo for dinner.  We've opted out back in 2015 from the "traditional" meal.  No one really enjoys it, so we started making Gumbo.  Everyone loves it and it doesn't take all day in the kitchen.  Win!

Make cookies and treats

Ornaments.  When the kids were younger, they used to paint ornaments.  Since 2018, we've been buying an ornament that represents something about them from that year.

Visits with Santa.  We don't do these so much anymore, but it was always fun when we did.

A Christmas memory that I will never live down.  Four years later and I'm still reminded of it.  That year I bought them a bunch of learning games.  I thought it was so cool and would make for some fun school days.  It did, but it was not cool on Christmas morning.  Let's just say I have not bought them learning games for Christmas since then, hahaha!

What is one tradition that your family loves?!

Have a wonderful day!
