It feels so good to be on a short break from teaching. I've been staying busy creating our end of year portfolios though. One left and I'll truly be on break. All of our new curriculum came in for next year and I'm ready to get it organized. We're making some big changes to go along with all of our life changes. Every homeschool season seems to be different. What worked one year, doesn't necessarily work for the next. Which can be frustrating.
Next school year the kids will be doing distance learning for the majority of their classes. After going back and forth and losing the guilty feeling of not teaching all of the subjects, I placed our order with Bob Jones University (BJU) and waited for it all to arrive.
Sterling is so excited! She met all of her teachers last week and wanted to start right then. I'm not letting her, I learned from starting too early last year. The burnout comes much quicker when you start earlier.
Our fourth grade curriculum picks for the 2021-2022 school year:
Online classes will be:
Additional work includes Reading Skills grade 4 and The Good and the Beautiful Handwriting Level 4.
Xander is a little more hesitant of doing his classes online. He's actually already started because he's finishing his Math 4 during summer break, so he's using Sterling's online videos. He still prefers me teaching him, but, this will be good for him. And me.
Our fifth grade curriculum picks for the 2021-2022 school year will be:
Online classes will be:
Additional work includes Reading Skills grade 5 and The Good and the Beautiful Handwriting Level 3.
Xander is doing different grade levels for history, science and handwriting. We've always done science and history as a group, so I felt it was best to pick up with grade 4. If he flies through them, I'll order grade 5. For handwriting, he's a work in progress. Ha!
Because they are working the majority online for the school year, we purchased them each a laptop so they can watch their videos, type their papers, and do their research.
Our tentative plan is to begin our 4th homeschool year on August 2nd. I can't believe we've completed three years. Our first year was a year of making it work, the second year was our fun year where everything flowed smoothly, and our third year was a disaster. We had the biggest learning growth in year three, but, we had way too much togetherness! Year four will hopefully be our new best school year.
Thank you for showcasing our materials here and on Instagram! Online videos are a great opportunity to encourage independent learning, so we're sure Xander will do great! You can find the products you mentioned below:
