It was a bitter cold day here in South Carolina when we woke up. We're ready for the cool weather, however, there's still a few 80+ days in November.
We started having the kids assist with one meal a week, at the least. They get to pick the meal and then we grocery shop for the items they need. We decided to do this because they love helping, but, they don't always follow through with the complete meal. So, they are in charge of everything and I'm their sous chef. They love telling me what to do, ha! Since they're not comfortable with the stove top or oven yet, it works out beautifully.
It's been a great time watching them learn new tricks in cooking and seeing what they like. They're great at mixing, measuring, and sizing things up.
Here, Xander wanted to make meatballs.

Sterling is also master pancake maker and flipper. She's always nervous around hot products, so when she took charge of the pancakes one night, I let her shine. She was so proud of herself. As was I.
They've always been interested in helping with cookies or cakes, but I love having them assist with meals. It's makes it a little more fun having a side kick. Because, let's be honest, I don't always enjoy cooking meals.
What meals do your kids enjoy making?
