Fun on the Farm

We took our second field trip yesterday.  We went to a fall festival to travel back in time.  It's been hard to find fall festivals this years that are open during the week and reservations aren't needed.  We met our best friends and had the best time.

We started the trip with a pumpkin and gourd lesson, then picked out one to take home.  Afterwards, we took a hay ride, without the hay 😂

They're were lots of adorable animals on the farm and feeding the sheep may have been the weirdest feeling ever.

Talking to the pig was hilarious when the pig would respond back

Hearing about Blacksmith's.  The kids loved when the man took a hot piece of metal and was able to bend it and then put the metal back flat.

Sitting in an 1800s train car and hearing the importance of how it was used back in the day.

And then it was free play.  First up was bowling.

And then the corn maze, a couple of times.

There were so many fun things for the kids to do after the structured lessons.  Not everything that is offered at the farm was open (food/stores), but the fun was.  That's what we were there for so it was perfect.  After the corn maze, I stopped taking pictures and just enjoyed the last hour.  The kids were able to slide down the huge tube slide in a silo, run through a tree house, play human foosball, and go through the corn maze as much as they wanted.

I enjoyed the time to catch up with my best friend.  This is her first year homeschooling her daughter so it's been nice to share what's worked, what's not, our ups and our downs.  Every child and family is different, but I have a feeling her daughter is a lot like Sterling from what she's shared with me.

Now I'm even more determined to find a way for all the complaining to stop when I say "it's time for school."  It's not an everyday sh*t show, but it'd be better, mentally, if it was only once or twice a month.      I'm not looking for my kids to love school, but I do want them to have a love for learning.  I want it to be natural.
